Answered Prayers

The surgery went well. They removed the entire lower lobe of her left lung as planned. She is recovering in the NICU. She has a chest tube for drainage. They took an xray after surgery to check for air leaking into the lung. It looked good. They took another xray this morning and we will find out later how it looks and if they will take the chest tube out today.

She has an epidural for pain and was also given a morphine drip aroun 9:00 pm last night. We think that may have been a little too much for her, as she had a lot of brady's (stopped breathing and heart rate dropped) between 9:00 and 10:30 pm. It was stressful for us, and it reminded us of her early days in the NICU at All Children's in St. Pete. She's doing much better this morning. Today should be a much better day than yesterday.

  1. My wife and I have followed your story these last few month. All that you have weathered successfully has given us hope and confidence. Our little boy will be born next week, at the CHOP Special Delivery Unit, and we expect to have surgery to remove a large BPS within a few days from birth. The staff at CHOP has been wonderful and I know you are all in good hands. Our very best wishes for the future.

  2. I was very surprised to read your comment. Of course I'm extremely curious how you found our blog! It felt great to know that our story was able to give you hope. We know how important hope is when you are going through something like this. You couldn't be more correct when you said that CHOP is wonderful. That is why we traveled so far to put Adelyn in their hands. We wish you the best of luck with your son's delivery and surgery. Please let us know how he's doing (staceyanne74@yahoo.com).
